There are two types of people in the world, REACTIVE and PROACTIVE.
Which are you?
A REACTIVE person blames others for things that happen to them. They often feel like victims. Reactive people:
- Are easily offended
- Get angry and say things they later regret
- Whine and complain
- Wait for things to happen to them
- Change only when they have to
|
PROACTIVE people are a different breed. They take responsibility for their life and makes things happen. Proactive people:
- Are not easily offended
- Take responsibility for their choices
- Think before they act
- Bounce back when something bad happens
- Always find a way to make it happen
- Focus on things they can do something about and don’t worry about things they can’t
|
Each day you have about 100 chances to be a proactive or reactive person. In any given day, your sister might take your sweater, you might get a bad grade, your friend might talk behind your back, or maybe your parents won’t let you do something. So what are you going to do about it? Are you in the habit of REACTING to these everyday things or are you PROACTIVE?
Explain whether you think you are a reactive or proactive person. Give some examples of your behavior that would help others decide which type of person you are.
(Write at least 3 complete sentences. Use proper spelling, grammar, capitalization and punctuation.)

Trustworthiness is our school theme for March. A part of being trustworthy is being honest because if you are an honest person people can trust in you and believe what you say and do.
Think about a situation in school where you’ve seen someone cheat. Maybe they got the answers from someone else, or maybe they stole someone’s paper and put their name on it, or maybe they got someone else to do their work for them, or maybe they took something that wasn’t theirs. I’ll bet you can think of other situations too. What they all have in common is that the person who cheated wasn’t being honest and trustworthy.
Using at least 2 to 3 sentences, explain why cheating is wrong, and don’t just tell me “because I’d get in trouble”. There is more to it than that. What does it say about you? What will other people think of you? What will you think of yourself? Will people be able to trust you?
Remember that spelling, grammar, and punctuation all are factored into your grade.

In a couple sentences tell me what you are thankful for. To get full points for your response remember that grammar, spelling, punctuation, and capitalization all count.

“You are responsible for the energy you bring into this space.”
This quote is attributed to Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor. As a 37 year old brain scientist she suffered a massive stroke in the left part of her brain. She couldn’t speak or remember her own mother, but when doctors and nurses walked into her room, she knew from the right brain who was on her side. She could feel their energy. She knew the medical staff by the energy, either positive or negative, that they brought with them… like a surrounding aura of light or darkness. She has since recovered and now believes that we are responsible for the energy we bring into a space, it doesn’t just happen.
What was Dr. Bolte Taylor trying to say to us?
Write a brief paragraph (2-3 sentences) explaining what you believe this quote means to you. You must use a stem response answer as well as proper spelling, grammar, capitalization and punctuation.

Welcome back to school. I’m looking forward to my new classes. My 5th graders will be learning to type without looking at their hands – very exciting! My 6th graders will continue to use those typing skills they learned last year. In addition, they’ll learn about some of the fun tools that are in Microsoft Word, and they’ll write on this blog too.
It’s going to be a great year. I can’t wait to get started.
See you soon…
